Based in the UK, he is a freelance editor and writer for hire, and runs One More Catch, an independent publication covering Pokémon Go and the next generation of Pokémon games.
He was previously Deputy Editor for guides and service for Polygon, a website covering games and entertainment, at Vox Media between January 2023 and May 2025.
Before that, he was at Eurogamer, starting as Guides Editor, overseeing significant traffic growth year-on-year by reacting to trends and maintaining high-ranking evergreen articles to establish the site as one of the foremost destinations for the world’s most popular games, including Pokémon Go, Fortnite, Destiny and Animal Crossing.
He started his career as Digital Spy’s Gaming Editor, achieving multiple awards and honours, including being named one of the top 25 most influential journalists in the UK games media (MCV, 2014) and winner of multiple Games Media Awards.
As well as being a BAFTA member, he has judged the BAFTA Games Awards and the Independent Games Festival on multiple occasions.
Matthew also enjoys making guides for older games - previously on GameFAQs as a prolific contributor, and today on YouTube - and once created an acclaimed Xbox Live Indie Game (RIP).
